What is an eCommerce Report

eCommerce reports in the system are reports that you can create to drill into various aspects of your online shop's performance. You can measure your online store's sales, abandon rates, while also finding your most popular products and catalogs.

The possibilities with ecommerce reporting using the ecommerce report creator are wide and varied. You should create a few reports just to get a feel for the report creator and to understand its scope. Find it under Reports->Create an eCommerce Report.

Example Uses of eCommerce Reports

You can use eCommerce reports to extract all sorts of information about the performance of your online store.

  • Measure your online sales volume for a period of time.
  • Measure your store's shopping cart abandonment rate.
  • Find out which shipping option is most popular.
  • Find out which discount code yeilds the most sales.
  • Find out which products get abandoned the most/least.
  • Find out which catalogs yield the best sales, and which have the most abandoned sales.
  • List your top selling products
  • List your top performing suppliers

Creating an eCommerce Report

To Create an eCommerce Report, we start by going to Reports->Create an eCommerce Report, then clicking "Create a new eCommerce Report".

Now, choose your report type. Each report type is different, and results in slightly different reports. Every report has the ability to select custom date periods.

  • Abandon Rate is for a report on shopping cart abandonment in terms of numbers of carts or value of those carts. You can report on different stages of abandonment, such as abandon at checkout, before checkout and due to failed payments.
  • Sales is for reports on your sales volumes. You analyze your sales by country, by payment type, payment status or by specific amounts, and view the results by dollar amount or by quantity of orders.
  • Quote is for reports on quote volumes. If you have enabled "quote" mode in your online shop, you'll be able to use this mode to generate the same information as above.
  • Payments is for reports on payments. You can report by country of the payment, by payment status (Succeeded, Pending, Failed etc), payment type (Credit Card, COD, PayPal, Gift Voucher) or by the amount amount.
  • Products allows you to breakdown your sales by product - in other words, the volume of sales attributable to which products, and rank them. You can filter by the status of the product (abandoned, invoiced or quoted) as well as by the country of the purchaser. Finally you can view these sales by unit volume or dollar volume.
  • Catalogs allows you to breakdown your sales by the catalog they are in - in other words, the volume of sales attributable to which catalogs, and rank them. Reporting options are the same as the above.
  • Discount Codes allows you to report on usage of discount codes and rank them. You can report on all countries or on a specific country. You can then filter results by the amount spent on discounted orders (Amount), or by the number of orders (quantity).
  • Shipping Options allows reporting on the usage of shipping options, and rank them. You can filter by the country that is assigned to the shipping option, and by the amount spent on that shipping option or the number of times that option is used.
  • Suppliers allows reporting on the sales of products, ordered by supplier. You can filter by the status of the order (Abandoned, Quoted, Invoiced) or the country of supplier. You can also filter by the number of orders or by the value of those orders.

Important: each Report Type is quite different. We recommend you explore each type to understand the differences fully, and understand all the reporting possibilities.

Tutorial: Reporting on Sales Volume with Custom eCommerce Reports

First create an eCommerce report as described above. Now select "Sales" as your report type, and click next.

Remember that each report type is slightly different. "Sales" allows us to extract information specifically about our sales, and filter based on sales specific criteria.

Choose our Filter Criteria

In this step, we choose fields to filter by. Filters are just like they sound - they allow you to cut out or filter certain data out of your report, based on the "filter field" you choose. Remember that in eCommerce reports. each report type has different filter by options.

For the Sales Report Type, you can filter by Country, Payment Type, Payment Status and Amount.

Image:5-2-3-filter-by.png

For each Filter, you have different filter options.

  • For Country, you choose the country you wish to show the sales of.
  • For Payment Type, you can choose to only show the sales that were purchased in a certain way. For example, you could show only sales that were made by Credit Card, or only sales that were made through PayPal.
  • Payment Status allows you to show the volume of sales for which payment is pending, or payment has succeeded, or payment has been denied.
  • Amount allows you show the volume of Orders above, below or equal to a certain amount.

In our case we'll show sales made with a credit card only, and click Next.

So this report will show us how much money we made from Orders purchased using a Credit Card.

Choose Your Time Period

Now we are presented with a Graph and some further filters, in particular a date filter. This allows you to zoom in on a particular time period that you want to see sales for.

View By Amount or Quantity

Now you can choose to view the report by "Amount" or by "Quantity". Amount is the dollar amount of sales, i.e $5000. "Quantity" is the number of orders received, so it doesn't take into account the amount of money those orders were worth. This is particularly useful if you want to see you average order volume excluding any once-off or out-of-the-ordinary high value orders.

Exporting Your Report

Once you are happy with your report, you can export the results into an Excel Spreadsheet. Your spreadsheet will contain the data in tabular format, similar to the table you see below the graph.

Save Your Report For Later

Now you can save your report. Click Next, and then you'll able to enter a meaningful name for your report.

And next time you go to Reports->Create an eCommerce Report, your report will be waiting for you!
